Ternary boride ceramic coating is the superior steel basic wear-resistance coating, because of its high hardness and good wear resistance. Palygorskite is good choice of antifriction material, as a result of its unique crystal structure. Adding palygorskite to ternary boride ceramic coating will not only keep the abrasion resistance of the ternary boride ceramic coating, but also make the coating having certain antifriction effect.In this paper, the experiment was used Mo-Fe-B as reaction system and added different proportion palygorskite into that reaction system. Mo2FeB2containing palygorskite coatings were prepared by Flame Sprayed (FS) on surface pretreated Q235steel substrate. Microstructure, phases were investigated by scanning electrical microscopy (SEM)/energy dispersive spectrum (EDS) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The bonding strength, micro-hardness, thermal shock resistance, porosity, wear resistance and anti-friction of coating were characterized with the relevant lab testing equipment. And the cause of effect on Mo2FeB2ceramic coating from different contents of palygorskite was analyzed.The experimental results demonstrate that through fully FS reaction, there are Mo2FeB2, Fe and Fe2O3in all of the coatings, and Mg3Al2(SiO4)3, MoO2in the coating added palygorskite. After adding palygorskite, the bond strength between coating and matrix was preferably. And the combining intensity of coating could reach to17.48MPa. The coating could keep intact after thermal shock75times. The density, micro-hardness and abrasion resistance of the coating added2%palygorskite are better than ordinary ternary boride ceramic coating. It is more compact than ordinary coating, and the porosity was reduced by8.4%., The micro-hardness of coating could reach1400HV0.1. The abrasive wear resistance of coating increases by1.6times than original coating, and2.8times than matrix. The adhesive wear resistance of coating increases by3.0times than original coating, and5.6times than matrix. The coating added5%palygorskite has the best anti-friction. The friction coefficient of coating could decrease to the range of0.22~0.28. But considering other factors, coating added2%palygorskite possesses practical application value most.
