With the comprehensive upgrade of industrial products, particularly the automotive industry products, and the implement of a series of new environmental laws and regulations, the requirement on lubricant base oil is stricter and stricter, and just using mineral oil has been unable to produce high grade oil, which can meet the new requirement. Therefore the synthesis of lubricating oil has become a research hotspot at present. In this paper, hydrogenation on PAO which polymerized with traditional aluminium trichloride complex catalyst was studied. The performance of Pd supported catalyst, Ni catalyst and Pt supported catalyst was investigated for selecting the most suitable catalyst. The influence of the reaction temperature, H2pressure, space velocity, and the ratio of H2to raw oil during the hydrogenation of PAO40and PAO100was also studied. Meanwhile, the influence of the reaction temperature, hydrogen pressure and mass concentration of catalyst during the hydrogenation of PAO40was investigated. An equation of hydrogenation reaction macrokinetics was regressed from the experiment data.The experimental results show that:Pd supported catalyst is the most suitable catalyst. Experiments on the high pressure fixed bed continuous lubricating oil hydrogenation experiment device show that:as the temperature rises, bromine index, kinematic viscosity, viscosity index and flash point of the refined oil decrease. As the pressure increases, bromine index and flash point decrease. Kinematic viscosity and viscosity index increases as space velocity increases. When space velocity changes within a certain range, bromine index and content of C1decrease as space velocity decreases; but when space velocity is less than the certain value, bromine index changes a little. The properties of the product also change a lot with the ratio of H2to raw oil. For hydrogenation reaction of PAO40, the regression of the experimental data shows that the reaction rate is1order for bromine index,0.863order for H2pressure,0.562order for catalyst mass concentration, and the activation energy for hydrogenation is1.68×104J/mol.
