Manufacturing technology for micro-optical components include ultra-precisionmachining and molding technology. Molding technology is a low cost and highefficiency technology for mass production as a kind of replication technology. Micromould for compression molding is required subsequent finishing for furtherimproving surface quality and form accuracy to meet requirements. Inclined axisgrinding process is adopted for grinding micro aspheric mould. Ultrasonic vibrationassisted finishing is employed for improving form precision and surface quality.Ultrasonic vibration assisted finishing is a kind of non-traditional processingtechnology, it is high efficiency, force of abrasive is small, and it could achieve highsurface quality. Especially, when hard and brittle materials are finished, ultrasonicvibration assisted finishing could easily realize ductility cutting, surface of workpiecewill not appear crack easily, and acquire high form precision and low surfaceroughness. In this research, ultrasonic vibration assisted finishing is applied to grindlens mould, being hoped to achieve high-precision aspheric lens mold. This research is supported by the National Project of Scientific and TechnicalSupporting Programs. In this paper, study was carried out based on micro-asphericmould manufacturing and ultrasonic elliptical vibration assisted finishing technologyas following:(1)This paper summarizes the basic methods and models for mould machiningfrom the theory of machining and related literature. The inclined axis grinding methodfor micro aspheric mould machining is researched based on machining characteristicsof micro optical mould;(2)Under the selected method for grinding micro aspheric mould, the boundaryconditions of noninterference are acquired by interference analysis and mathematicalmodelling. The maximum diameter and length of the cylindrical grinding wheel arecalculated by programming the boundary conditions;(3)Under the analysis of ultrasonic vibration assisted finishing, contactedfree-abrasive ultrasonic vibration assisted finishing is used for experiment ofultrasonic elliptical vibration assisted finishing, amplitudes and frequencies ofultrasonic vibration assisted finishing system are tested;(4)Surface roughness and microscopic appearance of finished plane are analyzed and compared, considering the efficiency and effection, the best parameters offinishing are acquired and be employed for finishing asphere, achieving the purposeof enhancing form precision and surface quality.
