Recently, the application of electrical submersible-motor-driven progressive cavitypumping technology(ESPCP)expands rapidly in the major oilfield. The core componentsof the cavity pump consist of rubber stator and metal rotor, in which the stator rubber isparticularly important. Although, the wear of stator rubber directly affect the efficiency andservice life of cavity pump, but the failure mode and causes of stator rubber material arebarely researched by the scientists in China or abroad, which restricts the development ofthe stator rubber used in cavity pump. Consequently, the analysis and research of thefailure mode of stator rubber is performed physically in this dissertation. On the one hand, in order to understand the failure modes and failure causes of thestator rubber material, the writer went to Liao He oilfield to analyze and gather the imageof the disabled rubber stator. Through the analysis and research, the factors caused thefailure of material rubber could be divided into three types: swelling, chemical corrosionand mechanical wear. These three factors could influence chemical and mechanicalcapacity of cavity pump from different aspects, and influence will happen among eachother at the same time and thus the speed of failure will be increased. On the other hand, in order to reveal the wear mechanism of rubber stator further, theworking conditions of oil well was simulated, the major material of stator rubber such asNBR and FKM were adopted to apply wear test under dry friction, water lubrication andoil lubrication using a MVP-600friction and wear tester in the laboratory. The collectedtest data and wear surface morphology of the samples were analyzed and compared withstator rubber material. The FI-IR analysis method has been used for analyzing the chemicalchanges of the wear surface. It turns out that swelling, chemical corrosion and mechanicalwear have great effects on stator rubber. In the end, some suggestions are also presented toimprove the tribological performance of stator rubber.
