Amphiphiles, which contains both hydrophilic and hydrophobic parts, can self-assemble in solution or at interface to form molecular assemblies with defined size and shape, such as micelles and vesicles. Efforts has been made to stabilize self-assembly structures by introducing mesogenic (especially the groups contain strong π-π interaction) or polymerizable groups into bolaamphiphiles. By improving the stability of self-organized aggregate of amphiphilic molecules in the liquid/solid interface, and controling the morphology of the aggregate structure, we can push the research of self-organization of amphiphilic molecules.1. We have synthesized a BODIPY fluorescent dye with one ferrocene group, and attempted to introduce this fluorescent dye into bolaamphiphiles. However, we found that pyridine base decomposes the BODIPY core during the salt forming reaction.2. A bolaamphiphile named PyTz-11-Ts which contains a pyrene group have been designed and synthesized. The critical micelle concentration of PyTz-11-Ts is0.96×10-4mol/L determined by conductivity method. AFM and TEM observation indicate that PyTz-11-Ts can self-assemble into two-dimensional ribbons with high stability during dry process. The formation of two dimensional ribbons has nothing to do with temperature. The morphology of the self-assembly structure can be controlled by ultrasonic, adding bromide ion to the solution, adding [PdCl2(C6H5CN)2] to the solution or ultrasonic the solution containing Cu2+ions. This work provides a candidate method for fabricating and controlling nano-materials.
