Objective:To investigate the current situation of cadmium pollution in artisanal zinc-smelting area, and explore the relationship between zinc status and cadmium injury. Methods:Selected Magu town as a cadmium polluted area and Kele town as a control area. The samples of soil, eight kinds of common crops and four kinds of animal offal in polluted and control area were collected, and then measure the contents of cadmium, zinc in all samples.54persons from Magu town and40persons from Kele town were extracted and investigated about habits and customs by questionnaires, and collected blood and urine samples. Indicators, including BCd, SZn, AKP, ALT, DBIL. IBIL, TBIL, UCd, UZn, Uβ2-MG, UNAG, UALB, UTP were measured to analyze the relationship between zinc status and cadmium injury. Results:The contents of cadmium in soil, six kinds of common crops and two kinds of animal offal in polluted area are higher than control area (P<0.05). The contents of cadmium in the soil of arable land which were artisanal zinc-smelting area before is higher than the other arable land (P<0.05). The contents of cadmium in the soil of arable land which were artisanal zinc-smelting area before is higher than the other arable land (P<0.05). The concentration of Cd was different in varieties of vegetables, among which the pakchoi had higher concentration, with the concentration index0.037. The level of UCd, IBIL. TBIL. UNAG, SZn. UZn in exposure group are obviously higher than that in control group (P<0.05). The level of DBIL, IBIL. TBIL. UZn. UNAG are higher as UCd increased (P<0.05), so there is obvious dose-effect relationship between them. With the increase of SZn content. UNAG decreased. There is a dose-response relationship between them.Conclusion:1. The background level of soil cadmium in surveyed area was higher than control area, and the level of cadmium is aggravated by artisanal zinc-smelting. The contents of cadmium in crop and poultry offal which were locally produced were higher than control area, and caused a certain degree of liver, kidney damage to residents through the way non-cadmium-rice; The background level of soil zinc in surveyed area was higher than control area, and the level of zinc is aggravated by artisanal zinc-smelting. The contents of zinc in crop and poultry offal which were locally produced were higher than control area.2. The zinc excretion in urine increased in residents in cadmium polluted area in the people with higher levels of zinc and cadmium uptake and accumulation; There was a protective effect of zinc on damage induced by cadmium, but can not counteract the damage induced by cadmium completely.
