Imidazole and benzimidazole are good extend ligands and a variety topologycomplexes can be generated by self-assembly. Great efforts have been expended on crystalengineering of supramolecule complex because of their fascinating structural diversity andpotential applications in the fields of molecular self-assembly, molecular recognitions,molecular catalysis, magnetic materials, optoelectronic materials,drug synthesis,gasabsorption,and so on.In this thesis, six transition metal compounds containing N, O-donor ligands aredesigned, synthesized and structural characterized, and the coordination behaviors andintermolecular weak interactions of these compounds are studied. The weak interactionssuch as hydrogen bonds,π-π stacking play a very important role in forming thecoordination supramolecule frameworks structure.1. Two new mononuclear complexes derived from AMB and second ligand KSCNhave been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectra, UV-visabsorption spectra. The crystal structure research shows that AMB acts as a bidentateligand, coordinating to metal ions by a nitrogen atomof imidazole and a nitrogen atom ofaliphatic amine. Both of the compounds ([Co(AMB)2(NCS)2] and [Ni(AMB)2(NCS)2])are six-coordinated and in a distorted octahedral geometry.2. Two compounds with2-substituted benzimidazole ligands are prepared andcharacterized by elemental analysis, IR spectra, UV-vis absorption spectra. The crystalstructures are determined by X-ray single diffraction. The formulas of the compounds are[Zn(AMB)(H2O)SO4]·0.5H2Oand [Cu(AMB)2H2O]·SO4.3. Two compounds containing imidazole ligand are obtained because the CDI ligandhydrolyzes to imidazole (Im). The new complexes ([Ni(Im)6]·SO4·CH3OH·2H2O and[Co(Im)6]·(NO32)] have been characterized by elemental analysis, IR and Uv-visspectroscopy. The coordination number in these complexes is six, and the coordinationenvironment is distorted octahedral.These six compounds all have two-dimensional or three-dimensional supramoleculenetworks, which are formed through hydrogen bonds and π-π stacking interaction.
