In this thesis the research on the tundish of slab caster of a steel making mill are introduced.three dimensional mathematical models are currently being used successfully to simulate liquidflow. the latge scale unicersal finite element analyses software ANSYS CFX is used and manymodels based on different tundish are built. by calculating the flow fields in the tundish withdifferent conditions,analyzing the average residence time in the tundish under transientcondition, then the position and the height of the dam are confirmed to have influence on theflow field of the tundish,and the filter, And the influence of filters to the flow field of thetundish and the removing of the inclusion in the steel liquid is also analyzed. after that, to get thezone which is easily eroded in the tundish, the wall shear of the tundish is also calculated andanslyzed. the conclusions are as follows:(1) When only dam and weir are used in the tundish, the scheme6scheme7and scheme10can get better fluid flow than other schemes.(2) Comparing with the scheme10,the scheme10with the filter indeed improve the fluidflow of the steel liquid in the tundish. From the result of the inclusion modeling,its clearly thatthe filter can remove the inclusion in the liquid steel.(3) The results and analysis of the shear showed that the wall shear of scheme4and scheme8is lower than other schemes.(4) The results and analysis of the shear of the scheme10with filters showed that: the peakof the wall shear in the tundish is suffered by the filter. Owing to the large wall shear, the filtermay be damaged so that its function is reduced.(5) Industrial tests showed that collision of small inclusions into large ones is encouraged inthe turbulence zone in the tundish, while the shape and size of the inclusion around the stopperis basically determined.(6) Considering factors of the flow field, refractory erosion impact area and tundishturbulence case, the scheme10(DB=1000mm, HB=350mm) is the most optimal scheme.
