Because of the heat of their own process system, cutting heat and environmental temperature change in their work process, different parts of the gantry machining center will have different degrees of temperature rise, which will lead to thermal deformation of various components and have an effect on the machining accuracy of machining center. In order to improve the accuracy of machining center and guarantee the quality of its products, we should to analyze the thermal characteristics of machining center. In this paper, the GQ1070gantry machining center has been researched for the change rule of its temperature field and thermal characteristics.The main content of this paper is as follows:(1) Summarize the error types and the control method of thermal error of machining center, introduce the research background and the present situation of machining center thermal characteristics.(2) Based on a mathematical model of temperature field calculation, through discuss the boundary conditions of machining center, analyze the method of calculating the temperature field based on heat transfer theory knowledge and the way of heat transfer and heat source of machining center process system.(3) Establish the finite element model of GQ1070machining center by the software ANSYS and give the mathematical model of the machining center heat source and the boundary condition according to the structure parameters and working conditions of machining center.(4) Analyze the thermal properties at different spindle speed of the GQ1070machining center in the empty operation, dry milling condition and milling with cutting fluid condition to get and analyze the change rule of temperature field and thermal deformation. The results showed that the temperatures of various parts of the machining center are not all rise with the speed increase in empty operation, but all rise with the speed increase in dry milling condition and milling with cutting fluid condition. The sizes of the machining center thermal deformation are mainly related to the degree of uniformity of the temperature distribution.(5) Have the temperature test on machining center and compare the calculation value got by the finite element method with the data obtained by test. By this way, the accuracy of the calculation result is proved.
