Strontium ferrite (Fe12O19Sr), as one of the most important permanent magneticferrite, has found many applications in variety areas, such as industrial electricalequipment, household appliances including communication tools, meter and printer etc.Compared with rare earth magnets, strontium ferrite has lower price per unit magneticenergy, wild availability of the raw materials, excellent chemical stability andcorrosion resistance. A wild application of strontium ferrite is the polymer bondedmagnets which can be produced by conventional polymer processing methods. However, the applications of such composites were limited as the high loading ofstrontium ferrite can severely increase the brittleness of the composites and deterioratethe processibility, which were reflected by the drastically deteriorated impact strengthand melt flow rate, respectively. In addition, as inorganic particles, the interfacialcompatibility between strontium ferrite and polymer is unsatisfactory, which could beimproved by various coupling agents. The aim of this paper is to prepare polyamide6(PA6)/strontium ferrite (Fe12O19Sr)composites with good toughness, processibility and magnetic properties for industrialapplications. We studied the effects of the coupling agents on the interfacialcompatibility between PA6and strontium ferrite. Secondly, focused on theimprovement in the toughness of the composites, we used POE-g-MAH andSEBS-g-MAH to toughen the PA6/Fe12O19Sr composites. Thermogravimetric analysis(TG) was employed to screen the lubricant with satisfied decomposition temperatureand TAF was found to be the suitable one. Polyetheramine JEFAMINE-2070canimprove the processibility of PA6/Fe12O19Sr composite. The experiment results alsoshowed that the hydrolysis of the silane coupling agent under acid condition canimprove the coupling efficiency and the resulted magnetic properties.
