Water-based epoxy coatings not only have many advantages of the solvent based coatings, but also are friendly to environment. The research of water-based epoxy coatings has a theoretical significance and a good prospect. Some specific emulsifiers for waterborne epoxy resin were synthesized by epoxy resin introduced macromolecule chain segment of polyethylene glycol (PEG) with different molecular weight and the products were characterized by FTIR. The results showed that the emulsifier structure with hydrophobic macromolecule chain segment matched with epoxy resin molecular. The emulsifier synthesized with PEG6000had good water-solubility and emulsification ability for epoxy resin.A stability waterborne epoxy resin emulsion whose particle size was small and uniform was prepared by phase inversion method. The influences of the type, dosage, molecular structure of emulsifiers and emulsifying temperature were investigated on the centrifugal stability of the emulsion. The results showed that the average particle size of the emulsion was about1.28μm and had good centrifugal stability without placement within30min at3000r·min-1.A self-emulsified waterborne epoxy curing agent was synthesized with diethylene tramline (DETA), epoxy resin, polyethylene glycol diglycidyl ether, and et al. The parameters of reactive process were determined including reaction temperature, reaction time, and molar ratio of reaction materials. The products were characterized by FTIR and the properties of the clear films had also been observed by TG. The results showed that these synthesized waterborne epoxy curing agent can also emulsify epoxy resin, the particle size of emulsion was about3444nm, and5%amount of films was decomposed at the temperature of320℃.Lastly, the clear films were prepared with stable waterborne epoxy emulsion and the waterborne epoxy curing. The structure and heat resistance of clear film were characterized respectively by FTIR and TG. Its mechanical and thermal properties were investigated at different dosage of the emulsifiers and the waterborne epoxy curing.
