With the energy demand and mining of social development, the energy storage will reducegradually in the land, there are more and more countries pay attention to deep-water oil and gas,which is the focus of world energy. The exploration of deep-water oil and gas is a very urgenttask, but damaged pipeline will seriously affects the deep-water oil and gas exploration.Therefore, deep-water oil pipeline repair technology is one of the key technologies that protectnormal operation of the pipeline. The research about technology of repairing damaged pipeline isnecessary, it is important for deepwater oil and gas exploration.This paper is described the deep-water pipeline failure causes and the corresponding repairmethods and procedures, summarizes the work tools that can repair damaged pipeline, theirresearch status and development trends. Basis on the current international research aboutdeep-water pipeline multi-functional repair tool, it proposes overall plan, design specificationsand modular design methods of deep-water pipeline multi-functional repair tool. It researchesand designs the key constituent bodies that include clamping mechanism, operating tools, cutterPlate, transmission mechanism and analysis the different operating modules that ensures thefeasibility of mechanism.It researches the clamp mechanism of the multi-functional repair tool deeply, compares toconventional underwater clamps’ structure, determines the principle of clamping and designs itsprogram structures, and analysis the force about the repair tool on water and underwater,Consolidating the maximum interference and bearing of repair tool, it establishes the staticgripping clamp model and designs the hydraulic drive system.In the case of tool’s normal operation, based on kinematics simulation for repair tool, itanalysis the changes of motion parameters in the various parts, and checks the relative movementin various components, improves the unreasonable or interfered mechanical structure.Meanwhile, it establishes the dynamic model of unilateral jaws based on the operating principleand studies the relationship of jaws’ movement and driving force, verifies the correctness of theclamping theory according to dynamic simulation of the institution.in order to ensure theoperational safety of the tool, it analysis the parts that withstand large loads by Static simulation,checks the strength and stiffness of key components. When it satisfies the strength anddeformation conditions, analysis the emergence of stress concentration and improves its shapeand size reasonably, enhances the reliability of bearing parts.According to operating environment of deep-water pipeline multi-functional repair tool, itresearches their respective overturning and Sailing stability of the repair tool under water. Itverifies the stability by metacentric on water. Meanwhile, it analysis the horizontal static stability and dynamic stability problems under the water by using underwater robots navigating stabilitytheory and proposes judgments based on underwater stability of repair tool. It providestheoretical basis for multi-functional repair tool’s sailing under water.
