Ipomoea batatas is also called sweet potato, belong to the perennialdicotyledonous plants in convolvulaceae ipomoea.The stem and leaf of Ipomoeabatatas belongs to convolvulaceae pharbitis.The chemical compositions of the stemand leaf of Ipomoea batatas are very complex,contain a lot ofsugar,protein,carotene,carotenoids,vitamins,minerals, flavonoids,phenolic,essentialoil,and Amino acids essential for human.The nutrients contained in the stem and leafof Ipomoea batatas can well supply necessary minerals for human,are incomparablewith other vegetables.The sweet potato leaf can be used as Chinese medicine for the treatment of avariety of common diseases, the material extracted from it have several kinds ofefficacies. To begin with, it has the function of inhibiting bacteria and tumor growthand enhancing immune. What’s more, the water-soluble dietary fiber can make peoplefall blood lipids and cholesterol to prevent arteriosclerosis. Finally, it can increaseplatelet and hemostatic effect, and also has anti-aging function. In order to providebetter development and utilization of sweet potato stem and leaf, in this paper, anin-depth study of the chemical composition of sweet potato stem and leaf has beendone, it can be summarized several aspects in the following.1. In the paper, it provides a general summary of the stem and leaf of Ipomoeabatatas, it mainly introduces the characteristics, introduction and cultivation ofIpomoea batatas, it also introduces research status and prospect of chemicalcomposition and the active ingredients of the plant. Sweet potato stem and leafcontains rich nutrient, it can be used as edible vegetables and medicinal materials,They can provide important reference for the future development and utilization ofthe active ingredients of the plant.2. This experiment by using95%ethanol, by adopting the method of resin and solventextraction, the Ipomoea batatas stem leaf extract are roughly divided into petroleumether, chloroform and n-butanol layer, and the mixture of each layer managed by apositive phase and reverse phase silica gel column chromatography and recrystallization method, eight pure compounds got from the extract of the Ipomoeabatatas stem leaf.3. We obtained five compounds from Ipomoea batatas stem leaf,and the structuresare identified. identify their structure with their physico-chemicalcharacterization.Through IR,UV,1H-NMR,13C-NMR, HMBC, HMQC,1H-1HCOSYspectra techneque, the five organic compounds’ structures were identified.They are:β-Sitosterol(Ⅰ)、Stigmasterol(Ⅲ)、quercetin(Ⅳ)、Daucosterol(Ⅵ)'β-Sitosterol-3-O-β-D-(6′-O-monodecanoate) glucopyranosyl (Ⅶ).Daucosterol(Ⅵ)was the firstisolated from Ipomoea batatas stem leaf,β-Sitosterol-3-O-β-D-(6′-O-decanoyl)glucopyranosyl (Ⅶ) ester was discovered for the first time4. we studied the extraction and detection of volatile oil in the sweet potato leaf.
