Compared with other materials, aluminium alloy material with high specific intensity and modulus, fracture toughness, fatigue strength and corrosion stability, good formability and good weld ability, thus it becomes a kind of nonferrous metal structure material which is widely used in aerospace industry. In order to reduce weight, save material and optimizing the structure, more and more aviation parts take use of thin-walled parts. However, there are still many problems in the processing of aluminum large diameter thin-walled circular pieces. Furthermore, due to its thinness, large diameter, low rigid, the thin-walled parts is difficult to be processed and clamped. These factors will increases parts of the form and position errors. So it is hard to guarantee the processing quality assurance. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a set of processing equipment with expansion uniform, simple structure and high efficiency.This paper introduces the research background, significance and necessity of the subject in briefly. Subsequently, it analysis of the current situation of the domestic and abroad about aluminum alloy processing technology, as well as the status of the thin-walled turning technology. On this basis, it also illustrates the significance and importance of this issue. Finally, the main work of this paper have been classified and summarized. The main research including:Firstly, this paper analyzes the processing condition and difficulties for large-diameter thin-walled circular, and then puts forward the constant displacement principle to solve the deformation of Workpiece clamping. And then, the overall layout of the lathe is designed with proposing the project which combines the vertical lathe layout with radial drilling machine layout. Based on the general layout, scheme of the lathe is designed from the three aspects including movement principle, transmission principle and structure principle. At last, the overall program of lathe was finished.Secondly, according to the overall scheme of lathe and take Pro/Engineer software to design each part structural of the lathe. Focus on a detailed design and analysis of the expansion device.Finally, analysis the structural static analysis and modal analysis on the key components and some parts of the lathe equipment. Using ANSYS software for analysis. The optimization design was carried out by finite element analysis for weak links in bed assembly. At last, a large diameter thin-wall arc-shaped piece turning lathe was designed.
