Nonlinear optics is a modern discipline targeting various optical nonlinear effects generated by the interactions between laser and a variety of matters. Inorganic-organic hybrid nonlinear optic materials have broken through the boundary between classical inorganics and organic polymers, combining the inorganic matrix and organic chromophores, to take their advantages together. Its presence has created a new field in the research of nonlinear optic materials. In this article, the basic theory of nonlinear optics was introduced, and the category of nonlinear optic materials and the research progress of inorganic-organic hybrid materials were discussed.Through diazo coupling reaction, Knoevenagel reaction and so forth, a novel chromophore SAZTCF and corresponding alkoxysilane dye SAZTCFASD were designed and synthesized. Their chemical structures were analyzed by1H NMR, element analysis and FTIR. By thermogravimetry, the Td of molecule SAZTCF was252℃. By solvatochromic method, the μβ value of the chromophore was4.597×10-26esu·D. These demonstrate that the chromophore show high hyperpolarizability and thermal stability.By sol-gel method, alkoxysilane dye SAZTCFASD was reacted with precursor ethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) and Triethoxyvinylsilane (VTES), irrespectively. The hybrid films were fabricated through the sol by spin-coating. The second nonlinear coefficients and half decay temperatures of the hybrid films were measured in situ second harmonic generation measurement. When the chromophore content is20%, the hybrid film exhibits the best d33value (20pm/V). In addition, the hybrid film achieved the highest Td/2(105℃). These results indicate that the inorganic-organic hybrid films containing chromophore SAZTCF can obtain good macroscopic nonlinear properties and orientation thermal stability.
