Apocynum fiber is known as the king of the wild fiber, with its excellentproperties, and research on apocynum fiber modification provide certain basis fromresource advantage to market advantage. Sericin is a kind of protein, having goodbody affinity, UV resistance, keeping moisture and skincare. Sericin having graftedonto apocynum fiber, can change the microenvironment of the skin, and nourish theskin. In order to realize the functionalization, apocynum fiber were firstly selectivelyoxidized with sodium periodate solution to get2,3-aldehyde cellulose and thentreated with sericin solution to obtain sericin apocynum fiber. The aldehyde groupsown the ability to crosslink with protein directly, so there is no need to add thecrosslink reagents on the whole process, which is in keeping with the people greenand healthy concept.The structure and properties of the proteinic oxidized apocynum fiber werestudied. The results showed as follow:With the deeper apocynum fiber oxidation degree, the more the aldehyde contentand the rate of weight loss, the more the crystallinity and breaking strength ofapocynum fiber declined, the more serious the damage of the fiber surface. It wasvery important to control oxidation conditions, therefore, consideration to thealdehyde content and the breaking strength, the optimization of apocynum fiberoxidation craft was: the concentration of sodium periodate solution:10g/L, thehandling time:1hour, oxidation temperature:40℃.It formed the covalent bonding between sericin and oxidation apocynum fiberafter modification by sericin solution, and the factors, such as concentration of sericinsolution, pH value, treated temperature and treated time had a great influence onmodification effect. The weight of oxidized apocynum fiber increased, crystallinitydecreased, but the breaking strength fluctuation was not big and the surface of theoxidized apocynum fiber had a certain number of repair after treating with sericinsolution. The dyeing properties of the proteinic apocynum fiber improved, however, the whiteness of the fabric decreased. The optimization process of sericin treating inthe oxidized apocynum fiber were as follows: the concentration of sericin:15~20g/L,pH value: pH=6, treated time:1~2hours, treated temperature:40~50℃, at thispoint, the fiber of sericin modified effect was better.
