As a combination of waste generated source and end disposal system, the refuse transfer station has played a crucial role in transferring process of urban waste. Xupu refuse transfer station, the second largest refuse transfer station in Shanghai, is served as a center of garbage collection and transfer operations whose service area covers multiple areas of central Shanghai The volume of disposed refuse can reach2400t per day. The process, however, results in serious environmental problems while offering convenience for the city.In order to eliminate odor pollution, several plant extracts were chosen to test their deodorizing effect and obtain optimum deodorization ratio of removing ammonia and hydrogen sulfide by lab scale test, and further prove in the pilot experiment Combined with the equipment condition faculties for different condition cases, the demonstration experiments were performed in Xupu refuse transfer station to verify the results of pilot test. Through the demonstration project of research, combining with economic analysis, deodorization program was proposed for Shanghai Xupu refuse transfer statioa The main conclusions of this paper are drawn as follows:(1) The pilot test results showed that plant extracts had obvious effect of removing ammonia. The reacting time for removing pure ammonia and H2S was120min. When the concentration of plant extract A in the air was1.75mg/m3, removal rate of ammonia and H2S can be reached to39.9%and77.6%respectively. When plant extract A in the air was0.85mg/m, removal rate of NH3can be reached44.4%.(2) Pilot experiment results showed that both flushing water and volatilizing plant extract B had good deodorization effect on NH3and H2S in leachate collecting room. Especially, the latter had a more long-term effect and more convenient operation.(3) Demonstration experiments were carried out in loading hall and the conclusions were as followings:1) On such condition that exhauster operated in high-speed, automatic sprinkler system in discharge groove worked, ultrasonic strengthen volatilized plant extract (1:100) and Volatile device continuously worked for24hours, it reached the best deodorization effect of odors in workshop.2) Comparing with other plant extracts, spraying plant extract A had the best remove rate on NH3, H2S and odor concentration, which were42.9%、100%and28.5%respectively.3) When deodorant device operated separately, ultrasound device got best removal effect on TVOC and NH3, which were62.8%,64%; Volatilization device had a good control effect on ozone concentration, which was22.7%. Combined of ultrasound device and volatilization device got best removal effect on NH3, TVOC, and odor concentration, which were72.1%,61.4%,24.1%, respectively.4) Odor concentration at the height of lm in loading hall was higher than that of1.5m. when deodorant device worked, the average deodorizing effects on1m and1.5m odor concentration were respectively26%and27.7%and the variation range of odor concentration decreased significantly.(4) Economic analysis showed that, deodorization work was very important in summer especially in peak working time (600-11:00AM). Spraying deodorant was an ideal technology in controlling odors, but deodorant must be harmless to humans. The combination usage of the volatilization and ultrasound had high removal on odor gases. The cost of spraying, volatilization+ultrasound and spraying+volatilization+ultrasound equipment was550000yuan,480000yuan,1.03million yuan; Monthly operating costed72324yuan,19388yuan and91712yuan respectively; volatilization+ultrasound and spraying+volatilization+ultrasound had similar deodorization effect, but the equipment cost of the former only accounted for53%of the latter’s, and monthly operating cost accounted for21%of the latter.(5) Based on the analysis above, it was obvious that the combination usage of ultrasound and volatilization deodorization devices had robust advantages. In summer, the hybrid equipment should keep working, while in cold winter, it was fine to keep one of them woiking.
