Coke drum is a reaction vessel which is one of the core equipment of the delayed cokingunit, it is also used in the most severe in refinery. The domestic coking total processingcapacity has been rapidly improved in recent years, the new and expansion of domesticdelayed coking units have increased every year.With the expansion of production scale, thenumber of coke drum is increasing year by year, the coke drum gradually become larger andlarger. In accordance with the process requirements of the coking unit, the operatingconditions of the coke drum are very demanding. In24hours of coking cycle conditions, thetemperature of coke drum changes in the loop between the operating temperature of490°Cand room temperature. The coke drum in circulating temperature and cyclic loading, thelikelihood of failure increases, and its life may be reduced. The failure of the coke drum willbring huge economic losses and even casualties, therefore the safety and service life analysisis necessary, so that we can predictable control of equipment operating status, avoid risks,ensure the safety of equipment and operation.The following works were carried out in this paper to research the coke drum in adelayed coking workshop of Daqing Petrochemical Company:(1)Research status at domestic and foreign in coke drum;(2)The site inspections of the coke drum;(3)The checking work for the wall thickness and stress of the coke drum;(4)The studies of the temperature distribution and the stress calculation of elastic andplastic;(5)Assessment of the residual life of the coke tower in test method.Although a specific coke drum in a Daqing Petrochemical Company is studied, but arange of research methods such as the strength check, stress analysis, life assessment as wellas real data obtained by the laboratory are high valuable for the similar coke drum. All theworks done in this paper and the conclusions, not only can guide the coke drum equipmentmaintenance, extend equipment life, but also ensure the safety of the device, direct theequipment updates and innovations.
