After extensive literature research of flue gas desulfurization both in China and overseas, the application of flue gas desulfurization, also the principle and characteristic was studied, combined with the real flue gas discharging situation of3million t/y FCC in West Pacific Petrochemical company (WEPEC). also comparison of different advanced technologies, BELCO EDV gas scrubbing was used. Based on the real running condition of Mg(OH)2wet flue gas desulfurization in WEPEC, the technology of flue gas desulfurization, running parameters, desulfurization result, running cost, problems encountered during running period and optimization of the technology were introduced and studied. Conclusions are as follows:Proper absorbent was chosen, running cost was reasonable.(1) For desulfurization unit, the MgO and flocculants consumption was9tons/d,2.5Kg/d respectively, motor power was680KW. and overall electricity consumption was8160KWH. Base on the price assumption:reclaimed water:2RMB/ton. fresh water:2.85RMB/ton. electricity:0.57RMB/KWH, MgO(85%):660RMB/ton, running cost of16255RMB/d was achieved. When choosing Mg(OH)2as the desulfurizer,1018million RMB/y of running cost can be saved compare with Na(OH)2was chosen as the desulfurizer.(2) After optimization, specification for discharged flue gas was achieved as follows: SO2<210mg/Nm3. particle<110mg/Nm3, specification for discharged waste water was achieved as follows:solid≤18mg/l, COD≤5mg/l, salt≤7%wt, PH:7-8. Since the running of flue gas desulfurization. all the discharged flue gas reach the specification,4928tons of SO2emission reduction is achieved, the quality of local atmosphere was improved.(3) Running parameters are steady as follows:temperature of scrubbing tower<61.4℃, pressure of cooling nozzle:0.21MPa, pressure of flushing nozzle:0.25MPa. level of scrubber:60%, PH of oxidation liquid:7.0-7.5, temperature of discharged waste water>40℃, The technical reformation reduces the running bottleneck, and enables the unit a long period running.
