Garment as a mirror of social development and changes, records the branches and theintegration of human culture, the materialized form reflects the culture characteristics andconnotations in different historical periods. While the Chinese and Western civilizationscollide and interact with each other in the long history development. Difference of thegarment culture is the premise for the formation of their nationality and independence. Inaddition, the Chinese and Western garment culture also reflects the law of humandevelopment and the spirit of the common pursuit. The Tang Dynasty had similarities withthe Renaissance in garment culture, namely the two periods were representative prosperoustimes. The Tang Dynasty was earlier than the Renaissance for seven or eight hundred years.But in the history of western division, they were both in the Middle Ages. They have aprofound influence in world history.This paper researches the typical characteristics of female garment with the background ofThe Tang Dynasty and the Renaissance, compares and analyses the different characteristicsof women’s garment in the two periods. We can research women garment culture inmultiple perspectives, the focus will be Social Gender theory,it’s a new perspective onwomen’s garment culture. In those perspectives, summarizes the reasons for differences andsimilarities in women’s garment morphology of the two periods, and reveals the deepcultural connotation of women’s garment, so that people understand the formation of thegarment have their similarities and differences in different cultural background. In theprocess of the garment development in future, people can grasp the pulse of the times moreaccurate and with a more rational attitude towards Chinese and Western culture, and thenmake them develop together. At the same time, the study of Chinese and Western garmentculture and development, do provides support for the inheritance and development ofwomen garment culture in Chinese and the Western, also provides the reference for thecontemporary fashion design.
