The formation of burr is a common phenomenon in metal cutting. Its formation and variety directly affects the quality of work-piece and the efficiency of production. It’s the key factor that affects and constrains the development of advanced manufacture technology. With the development of science of technology in manufacture, Burr controlling has become one of the key technology of precision and super-precision manufacture, it’s also one of the key technology automatic processing. Recent years, engineers and specialist pay more and more attention on burr formation mechanism and burr control in the world.According to the metal cutting burrs classification system of cutting motion and cutting edges of tools, the metal cutting burrs should be classified into three classes: sideward burrs, feed direction burrs and cutting direction burrs. This dissertation conduct a systemic investigation in the status of burr prediction burr shapes and inlands and overseas. The research regards sideward burr, feed-direction burr and cutting-direction burr as study objects. This dissertation studies the progress of burr formation and prediction of burr sizes and shapes. The main contributions are summarized as follows:1) Based on the point of view of system of machine manufacture, this paper points out some main factors that influence burr formation, fully reveals the relations between burr formation and controlling in metal cutting adopting the theory of systems engineering, establishes the groundwork for more study of burr formation and deburring technology;2) Based on DEFORM-3D, a three-dimensional models could simulate the progress of feed-direction burr and cutting-direction burr formation was proposed.3) In terms of results of simulation of cutting-direction burr, the progress of cutting-direction burr formation was analyzed. The negative angle was verified and its influence on the formation of cutting-direction burr;4) In terms of results of simulation of sideward burr, the progress of sideward burr formation was analyzed. The mechanism of burr formation is revealed ulteriorly.The research and its production enrich and expand the theory of metal cutting and precision maching engineering, provide important technical and theoretical guideance for burr controlling and deburring efficiently.
