Supercapacitors are new energy storage devices with intermediate performance between batteries and dielectric capacitors, which have high power density, long cyclic life and short charge/discharge capability, etc. They have multiple applications including aeronautics and astronautics, electronic communication, automobiles, military, etc. Engrgy density plays a key role improving the performance of supercapacitor, and the volumetric specific capacities have a significant effect on energy density of supercapacitor. In this paper, porous carbon (PC) with high volumetric specific capacitance was prepared from petroleum petrol coke or silicon carbide by microwave radiation (MWR) or electrical ristance furnace heating (ERF). With the analysis of the microstructure and capacitance of the electrode materials, preparation of porous carbon and its effect on pore structure and the formation of high volumetric specific capacitance were systematically studied. Main research contents are as follows:PC with high volumetric specific capacitance has been prepared from petroleum coke by activation with potassium hydroxide and sodium hydroxide and heating with ERF. The results show that this kind of PC has higher tap density of 0.50g/cm3 and higher volumetric specific capaticance of 120F/cm3 than pure KOH-activated PC whose tap density is 0.34g/cm3 and volumetric specific capaticance is 94F/cm3.PC with high volumetric specific capacitance has been prepared from petroleum coke by activation with potassium hydroxide and sodium hydroxide and heating with MWR and ERF. Compared to the ERF PC with tapping whose tap density of 0.50g/cm3 and volumetric specific capacitance is 120F/cm3, the MWR porous carbon has higher tap density of 0.63g/cm3 and higher volumetric specific capacitance of 169F/cm3 .PC with high volumetric specific capacitance for supercapacitors is prepared by chlorination of silicon carbide heating with ERF. The tap density can reach 0.65g/cm3, the volumetric specific capacitance can reach 110F/cm3. The powder electrical resistivity of it is 1865μ?·m, which is obviously lower than that of petroleum coke based PC.
