Slope stability study is one of the important research subject of geotechnical engineeringproblems. but due to the factors influencing slope stability is complex, the slope stability studyneed to consider many factors. Water as is one of important factors influence to slope stability, had been the difficulty in the slope stability research topic, because of the complexity of theseepage situation. In recent years, with the finite element theory and the development ofcomputer technology, studying on the influence of seepage to slope stability had been more andmore. Seepage field and stress field as important component of the slope stability analysis, theyinteract with each other. So to the research of slope stability must be analyse the role of seepagecorrectly. This paper summarize overseas and domestic research status of seepage and slope stability, the research method to study the slope stability. Take focus narrative on the limit equilibriummethod and the theory of finite element strength reduction method, and discusses three methodsof the slope instability criterion. And using the limit equilibrium algorithm to find the slopesafety factor, the finite element technique for the reduction of strength calculation of slope, anddraw the conclusion that the slope safety factor, and potential sliding surface. The calculationresults show that whole stability of the slope made use of the limit equilibrium method isconsistent with the shear strength reduction, and explains the credibility of the finite elementcalculation.First, discussing the basic theory of seepage and the principle of fluid-solid coupling, theinteraction mechanism of the seepage field and stress field. On the one hand, seepage produceseepage field that form pore pressure, the effect of pore pressure that act on the slope will changeslope stress state. That the stress state of side slope changed, will cause the porosity andpermeability to change. On the other hand, the permeability and the porosity will change theseepage field. Such the interaction of seepage field and stress field, will affect on the slopestability. then deduced the finite element equations of seepage, and summarized the conditions tosolve the percolation equation set. To expound the mechanism of fluid-solid coupling, andestablish the fluid-structure coupling model, give out the process of solving the model. And then, analysed the influence of seepage, using the finite element technique andABAQUS software on the slope stability calculation, the feet of side slope under the action ofthe seepage began to appear the plastic zone and gradually develop to up of the slope, the leveland vertical displacement of slope will further increase, produced adverse effect to slope stability. At the same time under the condition of considering the role of the seepage, analyzed slopestability by using limit equilibrium method, and compared to it does not consider the seepagerole in slope stability. This paper provided the results for early warning, the reinforcement of slope slide, hastheoretical and practical significance.
