With the development of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) technology andcontinuous improvement of communications capabilities, UAV is widely used inmilitary operations, emergency search and rescue and other disaster scenes. Swarm-likedistributed network composed by the multi-UAV equipped with sensors and weapons,this sensor group is more effective than a single complex platform. But the actualapplication environment is complex for cluster UAVs, besides UAV has a high-speedmobility. Therefore, it is necessary for considering and analyzing the node moves androuting protocols. This study comes from Aeronautical Science Foundation and focuseson routing protocol for cluster UAVs.In this paper, Firstly, we make a comprehensive introduction about the concept andcharacteristics of UAV; Secondly, we generalize the trend of UAV’s development, andwe focus on the trend of cluster for UAV and make a detailed analysis; Then give asimple summary on existing typical applications of cluster UAVs’ model. On the basisof the above work, the subject of the communication on the issue of cluster UAVs hasbeen studied, in order to not occur the regional disconnection caused by UAV fast anddynamic topology, we proposed Multi-mission Ferry Group Mobility Model (MFGM),which combined with the reference point group mobility model (RPGM) and dynamicgroup mobility model (DGM), RPGM can well describes the UAV groups movingscenes and DGM characterizes the process of grouping merge and split. And in case ofcommunication interruption caused by cluster UAVs executing mission, we introduced aferry node, which provide the services of communication for each intermittence region,thus carrying out cluster UAVs can maintain timely correspondence.We study the upper layer routing protocol after determining the node movement,and proposed the clustering routing algorithm applied to the cluster UAVs.Thealgorithm selects the node is the longest time of link connectivity as the cluster head,which effective restrains the computation and network overhead caused by frequentlaunched cluster algorithm. Furthermore, we take full advantage of broadcasting inorder to improve the efficiency of message forwarding in the process of route discovery, and adding the identifies into packet to prevent broadcast storms effective. Finally,combined the message sign and the node type to decide the message whether need toreceive, forward or discard.Simulation results show that the proposed model is better reflect the true mobilecluster UAVs movement, while MPCR is able to guarantee a lower transmission delayand a higher success rate based on forwarding by reducing the number of nodes andreducing the network overhead.
