The vacuum circuit breaker is the main switch between the electric locomotive andelectrified railway contact networks, and the vacuum degree and its mechanical characteristicsof vacuum circuit breaker will directly affect the reliable operation of electric locomotive, soit is particularly important to test and diagnose the vacuum degree and its mechanicalcharacteristics. This paper is to design a more superior performance vacuum circuit breaker’scomprehensive characteristics testing equipment, that has advantages of low powerconsumption, networked, intelligent, good man-machine interactive and so on.The paper analysis the vacuum circuit breaker’s working principle and its comprehensivecharacteristics’ testing technology first, then decide to develop with embedded technology byconsider of the cost, technology, and other factors. Afterwards proposes the overall schemedesign of testing equipment according to the system’s functional requirements. Hardwareusing ARM core processor, combined with data acquisition card, LCD touch screen and so onperipherals to set up the instrument’s hardware platform. Software, through the steps ofestablishing cross-compiling environment, cutting and compile the kernel and so on toconstruct embedded Linux system. And then, for data acquisition card, LCD touch screen andso on peripherals, the corresponding Linux drivers are prepared. Later design graphical userinterface and real-time database system, complete software design of each function modules,finally integrating and debugging system.This paper is based on ARM and embedded Linux, accomplish the function of testingvacuum circuit breaker’s comprehensive characteristics, the result indicates it’s feasible, canmeet the actual engineering requirements.
