With the development of science and technology, the precision driver requires not only highresolution but also enough output force with high stiffness. Traditional electromagnetic drivers cannot meet these requirements. On the contrary, inchworm-type piezoelectric motor appear to meetthese requirements, and it has been widespread concerned at home and abroad. Various piezoelectricinchworm-type drivers were successfully developed.Traditional piezoelectric inchworm-type linear motor has two clamping devices and a drivingdevice, using bionic principle of movement clamp-drive-clamp. The gap between the Moving part andnon-moving parts of the motor should not change when the motor is running. If the gap changes,performances of the motor will change. Because the deformation of the clamp device relative to theaverage processing tolerance is very small, it is difficult to ensure the gap keep same when themoving part is moving. This is why the piezoelectric inchworm-type motor requires for highmachining and assembly accuracy. The main research contents and results are as follows:The basic characteristics of piezoelectric stack were introduced. In order to provide referencesfor motor design, experiments of piezoelectric stack were carried out.This paper proposed design of a new Multi-foot Clamping Piezoelectric Linear Motor, detailedthat how the motor works and important workpieces of the motor were analyzed with finite elementsoftware. The structure of the motor was designed in detail. Tooling equipment for the motor was alsofinished. The new motor was assembled with the tooling equipment and bodies of clamp device weretested.When preliminary experiments of the motor were finished, some problems were found. Based onthe analysis of these problems, the second design was given. Integrative design of the secondprototype motor makes the structure simple, easy to machining. Loading pre-force with screw makesdistance of clamps feet adjustable. Stiffness of motor’s clamp arm was increased. The relationshipbetween the output force and relevant factors was analyzed and the formula of output force was given.The experiments have been done to test the performance of the motor.
