In the aircraft manufacturing industry, automation machine is widely used in aircraft assemblyline, which can improve the assembly efficiency, reduce manufacturing cost and ensure the qualityof assembly. At present, the aircraft assembly using dedicated frame and relying on manualconnection, leads to poor quality and high cost. A6-DOF CNC drilling/milling machine tool isdesigned for the demand of airplane assembly in the thesis. The swing head is designed with rotationA-axis, rotation C-axis and Z′-axis. It could be used in aircraft assembly drilling and milling whencombination with an XYZ motion platform. In order to improve the precision and the efficiency of rivet hole making on airplane assemblyprocess, the error compensation of the6-DOF CNC drilling/milling machine tool is researched. Themotion of CNC drilling/milling machine tool by homogeneous coordinate transformation method isanalyzed. The error model is established by analyzing the structure of XYZ-axis and Z′-axis,combined with rotation error madel of A-axis and C-axis. The geometric error model of the machinetool is derived to provide theory foundation for analysing error and the error compensation. Theimpact of major error is found by researching on the error model. Error on each axis is assigned. Theprecision of the machine tool is improved by a reasonable designed on machining precision of eachaxis. It is very difficult to improve the precision of each axis when reached a certain level. Thegeometric error is compensated by the error compensation model established, the control systemimplements the error compensation. In this way, precision of the machine tool satisfy therequirements specified level. This method was feasible from the point view of manufacturingprocess and the economy. It is effective to improve the processing and precision of riveting holes inaircraft assembly.
