The oil leakage in the drive axle housing and reducer shell connectingsurface has become a widespread failure mode of heavy truck industry. Thereason generally includes the poor flatness in the connecting surface, bolt connectionloose, the adhesive coating faults, and the bolts loose connection as the main reason. Here for the bolts loose and failure often leads to very serious consequences, rangingfrom the oil leakage of large flange to the reducer gear damage and vehicle can’t run,so here the bolt anti-loosing performance is very important. Therefore, this paper from the anti-loosing perspective, using the spiralockthread connection instead of the common thread, and build anti-loosing performancetest method by using a the drive axle housing fatigue test machine. The mainresearch contents include: threaded fasteners force analysis, anti-loosing andself-locking principle and loosening mechanism, and in-depth study of the controlmethod of axis preload strength. Based on the thread combination experiment andanalysis of data, so we can get the optimal spiralock combination and how to controlthe tightening torque can reach the optimum effect of anti-loosing performance. Theexperimental results show the effect of the spiralock with ordinary thread boltimproved obviously than the common bolt joint. From the study, we have found a theoretically feasible bolt joint which cansignificantly improve the oil leakage of heavy truck. It is used in the actual assemblyprocess and vehicle maintenance, which make the anti-looseness of bolt morepractical, concise and reduce the cost. And,this test method and conclusions of thispaper is good for improving the bolt’s reliability and solving the oil leakage situationin heavy truck industry.
