With the development of our society and economy, the passenger car market isbecoming increasingly booming, and people’s demand for passenger car is growing dayand day, meanwhile higher and higher petitions are asked by customers, all whichrequire each car manufacturer and supplier not only to increase production capacity butalso to improve the performance of automobile and its parts. As the key part of chassis, suspension system plays an important role in car’s driving safety, reliability andperformance, and it is also the study topic of modern auto design. In this paper, thestructural strength, fatigue life and dynamic characteristic of the torsion beam rearsuspension for an intermediate car are analyzed based on CAE method so as to improveits reliability and Kinematics&Compliance property.Finite element model of the torsion beam suspension is built according to the3-Dmodel supplied by manufacturer. Based on the suspension’s mechanical characteristic inactual driving, three common conditions are chosen, which contain impact loadcondition caused by uneven road, limit torsion condition and max lateral force condition, suspension stress distribution and its reasons are gained through the static strengthcalculation, besides, it is concluded that the strength of this suspension meet therequirement under the limit driving condition. The full vehicle model and virtual road for durability test are built by means ofmulti-body dynamics method. According to the “the specification of Hainan provingground for automobile type approval and reliability driving test”, the suspension’sfatigue durability is tested on virtual road.Based on modal stress recovery technique, component finite-element modalanalysis theory and flexible multi-body dynamics method, record the suspension’sfatigue load history suffered from virtual road driving test, and the data is analyzed toevaluated suspension’s fatigue safety, results show that the suspension meets therequirement of fatigue durability test, and has good reliability.Parallel wheel travel and roll test are simulated, and the K&C characteristics areanalyzed, which can provide basis for suspension design and research.
