Damping characteristics of the material is a very important indicator of measuring its damping properties of materials. The amount of concrete in building structures is very significant, and a variety of new concrete materials in construction is also widely used. If the damping ability of concrete materials can be fully utilized ,so that on the one hand great harm to the building structure , caused by earthquake, snow, waves, and occasional failure loads and so on, can be well reduced, on the other hand it also enhances the comfort and reliability of architectural structure of its own. Now many tests added a variety of polymers, carbon fiber, rubber, ceramic, etc as needed in the concrete mix to improve the performance of concrete. However, concrete is the main load-bearing structural material, so if only the pursuit of high-damping properties of concrete materials while ignoring the main load-bearing properties of its own, this is no practical significance. The contents of this paper is to explore the method of simply supported beam to measure the damping properties of self-supporting and non self-supporting materials, with concrete materials, for example, for the concrete compressive strength, elastic modulus and loss factors research of C30, C15, rubber concrete, ceramic concrete, and amend the formula for the elastic modulus and loss factor on the basis of existing theoretical, and verify the feasibility of the method of simply supported beam measuring the damping characteristics of material.Test results show that:1. When the concrete strain is small, the damping loss factor has nothing to do with the strain and strain rate, it is basically a constant. When the concrete strain is large, the loss factor increases with its concrete strain and strain rate.2. The paper explores the method of simply supported beam to measure damping properties of materials. Through the amplitude of beams measured by tests before and after excitation, that the boundary conditions of simply beam basically meet the test requirements can be concluded. So it shows that the method is reliable and feasible.3. For non self-supporting materials, the damping loss factor is consistent concluded from the trial in which non self-supporting materials are affixed to steel plate on the one side and both sides. So for soft and brittle non self- supporting materials, the paper proposes a test method measuring its damping characteristics.4. For the method of cantilever beam of measurement of material damping, the frequency can’t be arbitrarily chosen, and it is only for small size of specimens. The article explores the simply suppportted beam measurement of material damping, the amplitude and frequency of exciting force are adjustable, and it is suitable for large size of specimens, so it has greater applicability compared with the cantilever method.
