| Since1999,43Historic Areas have been designated in Beijing, and33Historic Areas in Beijing Old City cover an area of1967hectares,31%of the total area of the Old City of Beijing.During the last ten years, the protection of Historic Area in Beijing has scored remarkably achievements, especially in public facility construction, landscape environment reshaping, cultural relics and historic sites restoration, historic district restoration, traditional commercial culture restore, housing condition improvement and so on. But the long‐standing problems such as oversize population beyond environmental capacity, slow increasing of residential income, daily deterioration in the inhabited environment have not been settled properly. Meanwhile, new problems such as social structural tension, community vigor reduction, difficulty for traditional industry updates and new industry disorderly expansion gradually highlight and become the focal point of the protection work, yet the correlation study about social structure and industry development is relatively delayed.In the protection of Historic Areas in Beijing Old City, population evacuation and function adjustment have become the urgent problems to be researched and solved. This paper is based on Beijing integrated protection, from the perspectives of architecture, sociology and economics, through a great deal of investigations on residents, practitioners, consumers and current industry category and distribution, summarizes the current situation and characteristic of social structure and industry development in Historic Areas in Beijing Old City. And based on this, this paper discusses the inner link between social structure and industry development, the influence and affect on Beijing Old City integrated protection. Ultimately, though the view of social structure and industry development, the protection and development strategies on Historic Areas in Beijing Old City are proposed. |
