Natural ventilation, as one of the most traditional ways for human to buildcomfortable indoor environment, always acts an important role in buidling designprogress before. But because of the morden constructions rely on AC system to adjustindoor temperature and humidity and use mechanical ventilation to provide fresh air,the use of natural ventilation has been ignored gradually. Especially high-risecommercial buildings always act seal airtight form to abandon using naturalventilation for its unpredictable characteristic.Natural ventilation and natural weather conditions as closely related, so there isuncertainty and randomness. However, from view of statistics, natural ventilation canstill be calculated by quantitative analysis and to be applied. Some domestic andforeign literature provides the method for calculating natural ventilation. And there issome software to simulation natural ventilation. But natural ventilation is closelyrelated with the thermal environment. Currently continuous simulation of naturalventilation coupled with thermal calculation has rare means. Wind pressure effectionsand Single-Way ventilation problem have still been handled inadequate. This paper tostart the following research:Firstly, this paper reviews the literature of the current status of natural ventilation, lists the common calculating method, evaluating method and thermal comfort index. This paper points out the lackness of typical time calculation and climate adaptationevaluation currently wide used, figures out coupled natural ventilation simulation andenergy consumption evaluation to analyse such problems.Secondly, based on DeST (Designer’s Simulation Toolkits), an energy simulationplateform developed by Tsinghua University, author adds a new module to calculatenatural ventilation coupled with thermal simulation. At the same time, this paper listsnecessary parameters during the course as well as DeST-Vent’s mathematics andphysics foundation (multi-zonal network method). Additionally author also used anexperiment to prove the accuracy of DeST-Vent.Finally, this paper analyzes the possible factors affecting natural ventilation, and summarized the main factors which are building ventilation form, buildingsurrounding environment, ventilation control temperature and climate region.Through many case studies, author obtained the law of natural ventilation affected bythe four factors. The law can act as a guide to help building designers do some fastanalysis of natural ventilation during the early determine period.
