With the development of the research work on fuel cell vehicles (FCV),how to measure the hydrogen consumption accurately and how to evaluate thehydrogen economy for FCV has caught more and more attention. During thelast stage, the research work was focused on the three hydrogen consumptionmeasurement methods which were recommended by the SAE J2572. Duringthe next stage, the research work will mainly enclose with the methods of howto evaluate the hydrogen economy for FCV.The main contribution of this research work is the hydrogen economy evaluationdevice for FCV, the device is developed with a heavy-duty chassis dynamometer.Using the device, researchers can measure the hydrogen consumption accurately,meanwhile they can record the real-time change of the rechargeable energy storagesystem. With the data, the researchers will calculate the net energy change (NEC),then they can give an energy evaluation for the FCV being tested.The hydrogen economy evaluation device consists of two main parts, one is thehydrogen consumption measurement device, and the other is the computer controland DAQ system. The hydrogen consumption measurement device includes threeparts:1) the hydrogen pressure regulator device;2) the hydrogen storage tank supportdevice;3) the scale measurement assistant device. The hydrogen consumptionmeasurement device can supply the FCV being tested with enough hydrogen ofproper pressure and flow rate. The computer control and DAQ system will detect thetemperature and pressure change of the hydrogen in the tanks with an accuracy of±1%, and record the real-time change of the SOC of the RESS. Then, the computerwill give out an calculated economy evaluation number of the FCV being tested.
