Based on the power frequency of the traditional protection is difficult to meet the rapid development of modern high-speed rail requirements. Traveling wave applications in the power transmission line fault location to the introduction of the electrified railway traction network has become a hot topic of recent research. This article draw on the principle of the traveling wave fault location of transmission lines in-depth study of the AT power supply catenary traveling wave fault location.First introduced the concept of transient protection, and then analyze the transient process of the transmission line fault and a brief description of the transformation theory of the sagami, highlights the catenary transient protection features as well as transient signal extraction. Then the wavelet transform theory, compared the characteristics of a small Porgy select a suitable wavelet bases and threshold, using wavelet transform to extract and analyze the fault transient traveling wave. According to the wavelet singularity theory obtained the wavelet transform modulus maxima, by type A traveling wave fault location principle to calculate the fault distance, systematic introduction of a variety of traveling wave fault location theory.Secondly, according to the characteristics of the catenary use simulation software ATPDraw to establish the simulation model of the AT power supply catenary. The catenary different operating state, the circumstances of the different fault types were simulated to obtain the corresponding current waveform.Finally, by means of wavelet transform in MATLAB tool to analyze the current waveform obtained by simulation in ATPDraw to extract the transient traveling wave signal, extract the modulus maxima to find the signal mutations resulting in the moment of the initial traveling wave head and the point of failure reflection traveling wave head reaches the detection point, finally realize the precise positioning of the traveling wave fault location.
