The use of tear straps in the skin under the flange can arrest the damage of the skin to propagateand increase the residual strength of composite stiffened panel. The main contents of this paper aresummarized as below:1, Firstly, the progressive damage analysis(PDA) is introduced based on Hashin failure criterion;Secondly, This paper introduces the analysis method of the post-buckling stage for compositestiffened pane; The interface element based on cohesive zone model (CZM) is introduced.2, Under tension load, The damage propagation is studied for composite stiffened panel by usingthe commercial software ABAQUS. then how the tear straps arrest the damage is discussed. Finally,the effects of arresting damage are obtained.3, Under compression load, The damage propagation, eigenvalue buckling analysis and thestructure’s load carrying capacity at the post-buckling stage is studied for composite stiffened panelwith no tear strap and three tear straps between the flange and the skin by using the commercialsoftware ABAQUS. Finally, comparing the finite element results, the increase percentage of theresidual strength is abtained and how tear straps to arrest the damage that is analysed.4, Firstly, the effect of difference tear straps on the load carrying capacity of composite stiffenedpanel is discussed. Secondly, the effect of the distribution of one or three tear straps along thethickness of the skin is studied; Finally the advice of designing tear straps under the flange isobtained.
