Urban water distribution system is an important part of infra-structure intown, which plays a significant role in maintaining people’s live and development of thecity. Water distribution system is of a great investment and power consumption, and itdirectly affects the performance and reliability of the whole system, this makes it themain task of system optimization.A growing investment is being spent on waterdistribution system model and optimization methods to work out the systemimprovement problem in a reasonable and scientific way, could safe a huge amount ofinvestment, and a high level of running reliability of the system is expected, which hasgreat practical significance.Relying on subject of ‘State major projects for Middle and lower reaches of theYellow River water supply network security—based of optimizing reconstruction forurban water supply network of water supply security’, pilot area is as the studyarea, according to the water distribution system improvement proble showed there, asystematic study on optimization of the improvement problem is presented in this article, which is the first time to the city.Firstly, based on the investigation of the water distribution system in study-zone, adynamic microcosmic model is built by EPANET, simulate states of the waterdistribution, analyze performance of the system, and then determine the requirementsand range of the improvement, there are twenty-two pipes needed to be improved.Secondly, consider with pipe network transformation technique combined with thestatus quo, use Intelligent genetic algorithm optimization techniques, a objectivefunction of project cost is proposed to search the optimal diameter of pipes combinationbased on matlab platform, with diameter of pipes as variables, the diameter ranges asconstraints. the optimal diameter of twenty-two pipes needed to be improvedcombination is be determined. Finally, simulate ten groups of optimal combination of diameter respectively, thebest optimal combination is determined through the technical and economic comparison. The Improvement of pipe network not only to meet the water needs of the study area, but also to have greater potential for long-term planning, to be reasonable in technicaleconomic terms, and to further improve pipe network reliability through simulatingstates of the water distribution, evaluation results show the Improvement of pipe network is feasible.
