SPSW (steel plate shear wall) structure presents convenient construction, higher lateral stiffness and bearing strength, good ductility and excellent seismic behavior and so on. So it has better application prospect in the lateral resisting system of high-rise building.SPSW has appeared in many engineering applications in recent years, and it shows trend of the large-scale popularization, but current regulations regulate less content about SPSW, even it is difficult to conduct engineering design. Aiming at the shortcoming of regulations, this paper studies SPSW with four-side connections transverse stiffened SPSW with two-side connections by the way of the numerical and experiment.Firstly, based on boundary conditions of preventing rigid body displacement of steel plate under pure shear, reasonable applied method is given in this paper. And shearing stability criteria is put forward. Furthermore, a new design method of shearing strength and stability is proposed for steel plate shear wall with elastic-plastic behavior of the material considered, in which the universal slenderness ratio is introduced. And then, this paper fits correlative formulas of plates with four edges simply supported and clamped by above new design method. Comparison with the results of FEA shows that the proposed equations have good accuracy.Secondly, through finite element simulation, the formula of ultimate bearing capacity is proposed for plate with four edges simply supported. And then, this paper studies the fixed effect of surrounding members and analyzes the influences of ratio of width to height, ratio of height to thickness and the parameter of flexural stiffness of surrounding members on elastic-plastic buckling coefficient.At last, two models of steel plate shear walls with transverse stiffener were tested with monotonic load and low cyclic load respectively. And then the results from finite element simulation and formulas of shearing strength and stability of plates with four edges simply supported and clamped are compared with the results from pushover test. The deformation performance and development of out-of-plate deformation of SPSW are investigated and the variation of the curves of load-displacement and load-stress and so on is analyzed too. Furthermore, this paper pays close attention to effect of stiffener during bearing load and the influence on energy dissipation of structure. Test results show that the specimens present high initial stiffness, excellent deformation performance, good ductility and good energy dissipation capacity; that transverse and vertical side stiffeners have better stiffening action at elastic loading stage; that transverse and vertical side stiffeners start to become deformed at inelastic loading stage, so that stiffening action is cut down.
