With the progress of society and the advancement of architecture technology,high-strength and light concrete is demanded, light aggregate and lighthigh-performance concrete is becoming a very important technical direction. Comparedwith ordinary concrete, light-weight aggregate and high-performance concrete ischaracterized by lightness, high strength, heat insulation, resistance to seismic power,durability and excellence in terms of economy and technology. As a result, it has abright future in large-span bridges and high buildings construction.In this paper, two types of local clay haydite were selected as aggregates, togetherwith some other common materials, to prepare light-weight haydite aggregate concrete(LWHAC), with the strength grade ranging from CL30to CL50. Its physicalmechanical properties, durability and other properties were investigated also.Experimental results showed that compared with ordinary concrete, such LWHACpossess advantages on physical and mechanical propertie, impermeability, frostresistance and durability performance, as well as light-wight and low thermalconductivity. It was found that under certain conditions, the strength of LWHACincreased with the drop of water-cement ratio. Its strength is chiefly determined by thestrength of lightweight aggregate particles and that more cement in the compositionincreased its strength.
