Application Of Chinese Traditional Gardening Techniques In Modern Landscape Design

Chinese traditional gardening techniques occupy an unique style in the worldgardening history for its long history and profound attainments, and it has not yet lostits seductive charm at present. However, due to the social development and the changeof time, there has a huge gap of time and space between Chinese traditional garden andthe requirements of the modern society for living environment. The huge change ofChinese history in past century makes Chinese people lack of national confidence for along-term, thus lead a rough inheritance of our native traditional culture. Under thestrong influence of western culture, we used to see the world in their opinions, whichmake the "modernity" and "originality" of Chinese modern landscape design sufferingwidely query at the same time of its rapidly development.The author tries to conduct deep analysis on the Chinese traditional garden andthe culture background of breeding the garden art; and examines the modern value andlimitations of the Chinese traditional garden and gets the aspects worth inheriting andrethinking through combining the contemporary characteristics and development trendof modern landscape design and discusses how to combine the Chinese traditionalgarden art with the demands of modern society in the modern landscape design to writea new chapter for the Chinese traditional garden art. Therefore, the paper takes thenation’s traditional culture where the Chinese traditional garden deeply takes root asthe entry point to analyze the contemporary background and philosophical thought system of generating the Chinese traditional garden, gets the value and existingshortages of traditional garden through the comparative analysis on the Chinesetraditional garden and the modern landscape, and explores the application of Chinesetraditional garden in the modern landscape design with the basis on the timesbackground of and the application of the scientific method and the new thought.Basing on the above understanding, the paper combines the features of the traditionalgarden in accordance with the requirements of modern landscape design, and states thereferential significance of the Chinese traditional garden on the modern landscape interms of the site analysis, design idea, space arrangement, design elements, artisticconception of design, etc.Finally, by on-the-spot investigation and with the combination of the analysis ofthe landscape design of Xi’an Tang Daming Palace National Heritage Park, the paperexplored how to applying the excellent conceptions and theories of the Chinesetraditional landscape architecture in the practices of modern landscape design, andinnovated on this basis.
