Recently, with the fast development of the UHV power transmission project, theelectromagnetic environment around power transmission line absorbed widespreadattention. International standards were set for the electric field strength under the powertransmission line and corresponding standard was set conforming to the situation in ourcountry. The arrangement mode of the route traverse and the design of corridor width areaffected by the electric field strength under the power transmission line in the project.So it is very important to measure the electric field strength for the design of the powertransmission line.New calculation method was studied for ground electric field strength under powertransmission line in this paper, which is Radial basis function method (RBF). It is usedfor calculation of both DC and AC transmission line.Base on that, the main work and achievements are as follows:①The theory and method of RBF for solving point interpolation and differentialequation were investigated. Results show that RBF has the advantages of high precision,good stability and simple and convenient. RBF can obtain good continuity, smooth andprecise approximate solution only a few nodes in the solving differential equation.②RBF is applied to solve the boundary value of static electric field. The basicprinciple and implementation steps were discussed and the feasibility was provedthrough simulation analysis.③RBF is applied to calculate nominal ground electric field of UHVDCtransmission lines. The effects of line structure and parameter to nominal groundelectric field were investigated.④RBF is applied to calculate ground electric field of UHVAC transmission lines.Through comparison the results with actual measurement data in the reference, theaccuracy of RBF was proved. The effects of three kinds of line structure and parameterwere investigated.⑤The influence of the lightning conductor and shielding conductor to the groundnominal electric field of UHVDC transmission lines were studied by RBF.The effects oflightning protection angle and the shielding lines number, height, arrangementconfigurations to the ground nominal electric field were investigated.
