Shot peening forming is an important method in aerospace manufacturing area which isused to form large thin panels like wing panel and rockets panel. The key problem of thisprocess method is how to determine the suitable shot peening forming parameters and theregion distribution of shots. The traditional method is to try most test in order to determinethe suitable shot peening forming parameters and the region distribution of shots. This methodis difficult to determine the shot penning parameters of which panel have complex shape. But,this will take a lots of time and the host cost of test. And in addition, it’s difficult to re-appearthe process. Making the main reason of above shortcomings is difficult to calculate thenumerical theory about the forming process under the large quantity of shots .Consequently,this paper mainly studies the panel changing and numerical theory of the panel changing withthe impact of a shot, using finite element analysis software ANSYS to simulate the shotpeening forming process, and providing the theory for the actual shot peening forming.The major work is to complete in this paper as the following:(1)Builting an analytical mechanical model of impacting target panel by a sphericalshot. Firstly, an elastic-plastic constitutive relation is constructed based on J2 deformation,introduced the Boussinesq problem to calculate the deformation of semi-infinite bodysubmitted to a concentrated force, we can get a P-N general solution for the Boussinesqproblem. The deformation displacements, strains and stresses are obtained for the materialimpinged by a spherical shot when the shot moves to the lowest position. Based on thecalculation results, a new mechanism is proposed, the compressive residual stress is producedby associative action of surface plastic stretched layer, internal plastic stretched core with highlevel stress, internal plastic compressed core and ambient surrounding elastic compressedmaterial.(2)Builting analytical mechanical models to calculate deformation of panels submittedto the impact by a lots of shots. Factors associated to shot peen forming are simplifiedtheoretically, including idealized shot peening parameters, isochronized impact and thickened plate etc. Based on that conditions, builting the analytical mechanical models for panelbending. Consequently we can expound the mechanism of banded shot peen forming.(3)Based on the shot peen forming conditions in our country, using test to verify theresearch work of this paper. Design the experiment of panel bending shot peen forming toverify the process parameters and finite element analysis method.
