Vehicle delay at signalized intersections is the most important measure of running efficiency and server quality. It not only reflects the drivers discomfort, restrain, oil consume, time lose, but also reflects the logical of signal control and design. This paper mainly analyzes the control delay which mainly at urban signalized intersections. This paper simply talks about vehicles movement characteristics of arrival and depart process. A comprehensive a summary and analysis about the researches of intersection delay modles both in and abrord is provided in this paper,and deficiencies are also be found.In view of the traffic characteristics differences between the city in our country and American city,it’s not appropriate to use the signal intersection delay modles in the U.S.HCM derectly,however,we can improve their modles so that the modles can give appropriate descriptions about our signal intersection.In addition, left-turn-lane and right-turn-lane are set up in more and more intersections,but theory about the research is still not completed. Concretely, this paper constitutes of four parts. The first chapter is a summary, which reviews the study history and introduces the background and some study concepts. In the second chapter, the arrival process and depart process are mainly analyzed based on the survey data. The third chapter analyzes the vehicle delay at signalized intersections. The left turn vehicle delay model is simply studied too. In addition, this paper takes the example of Changsha Shiziling intersection to calculate the intersection delay by simulation software named VISSIM5.20. The calculation results are compared with the calculation results of HCM2000 and spot sample method. The calculation of delay model at Changsha’s signalized intersection has been established. In the forth chapter, the right-turn vehicles traffic characters are discussed. At last, the paper work and findings are summarized. The future work is also suggested.
