Relative to section of urban road, traffic characteristic of intersection is morecomplex, because of conflict, crossing, weaving, diffluence and confluence in allkinds of traffic flows. Intersection is the key of free travel for urban transportation.Delay is an important parameter evaluating run efficiency and the LOS at signalizedintersection. The research of delay can be used in planning, design and optimizing ofsignalized intersection, also it is the theory basis for improving the LOS atsignalized intersection. Adopting the way of theory analysis combining to surveydata, the objective of this thesis is to set up the delay model and capacity model ofleft-turn and right-turn traffic flows at signalized intersections. The thesis reviews the delay model researched by transportation engineersabroad and home, then presents the shortcomings embedded in these researches.Mixed traffic flow characteristic at signalized intersection in our country is differentfrom the condition used in HCM, so we only think HCM method as reference. Atpresent, more and more intersections have exclusive left-turn and right-turn laneswhich is weakness of research on delay and capacity model. Based on above analysis the objective of this thesis is according to HCM modelcombined to traffic flow characteristic in our country to set up delay model. Inaddition, this thesis presents the capacity model for left-turn and right-turn vehiclesusing fleet method and conflict traffic volume method. Then the parameters ofmodels are calibrated and these models are validated based on survey data, whichshows the good applicability. Lastly, a methodology based on fuzzy set theory is presented in this paper todetermine signalized intersection LOS that explicitly accounts for user perceptions.
