Marine propulsion of twin-diesel engine, which meets the manipulate requirement of flexibility and maneuvering of the ship, has been more widely used in the ships in recent years with the advantages of improving the propulsive efficiency, durable and economical. In this paper, marine propulsion of twin-diesel engine is modeled and simulated, and the simulation system of twin-engine propulsion console is developed with the experimental platform of twin-engine simulation console. The study is completed as follows.First, the method of modularization is used to build the mathematical model of Pielstick medium-speed diesel engines, transmission (clutch and gear box), shafts, controllable pitch propeller and hull.Second, the simulation model of twin-diesel engine propulsion is established in Matlab/Simulink. With any set of COD AD propulsion as example, the limit load of the diesel engine, the load distribution when paralleled twin-engine and method of parallel control are mainly analyzed. The ship conditions in cruising, speeding up, disconnecting and turning are simulated.Third, by the use of the RTW toolbox in Matlab, the model for real-time simulation is realized. By the use of Matlab engine interface, the communication between VC++and Simulink are realized, too. Applying the technology of CAN bus and database, and by the tool of VC, the data acquisition and management of twin-engine simulation console are achieved, and finally the development of simulation system for twin-engine propulsion console is completed.The simulation results show that, when the twin-diesel engine propulsion is in cruise operating conditions, the engine speed and propeller pitch can follow the telegraph for a given signal quickly and accurately, and keep running stably in the low-speed region; when it is in accelerated conditions, the engine with heavy load will transfer part of the of load to the engine with light load, finally, the distribution of load balancing and sustain high-speed and stable operation are realized; when it’s in the twin-engine disconnection, the load transfer to one of the engine smoothly without causing the engine runaway or overload; when it’s in the rotation conditions, the load mereased for the outer propeller is smaller than the inner one.The simulation system for twin-engine propulsion console designed can realize the real-time simulation as the telegraph turned from astern max to ahead max speed of the ship, has laid a good foundation for the simulation study of twin-diesel engine propulsion and the development of simulation system in the laboratory environment.
