Recent decades have seen the rapid development of transportation of extra-large vehicles by sea in shipping industry, which benefited from persistent growth of our country’s economic and sea transportation business. Because of the extra-large vehicle’s structural features or its large volume, heavy weight etc, the requirement to lashing and securing need relatively high technology. The technique of extra-large vehicle’s lashing and securing is complicated, we should pay more attention about it. Serious accidents maybe happened if we do not handle well with the vehicle’s lashing and securing.The problems about the transportation of extra-large vehicles by sea are as follows:the planning of the securing arrangements just apply to land transportation but not meet the requirements of the complicated and rough circumstances at sea. The requirement of the lashing between cargo and vehicle should bear30degrees of the vessel’s rolling; the securing between vehicle and vessel is too simply and have no more reliable measures; workers deal with the lashing between cargo and vessel are always with experience, the securing arrangement does not reasonable and risk exist; There has no consistent stowage and securing plan for the extra-large vehicle.With a view to further enhance the safety of the transportation of extra-large vehicles by sea, researches have been made in this thesis with following achievements: Fully understand the type of the extra-large vehicles and its main parameter, than we have the concept of quantity about the extra-large vehicles; In accordance with the prevailing regulations, rules, codes, usages and practices promulgated or published by international maritime institutions, shipping companies, class societies, International Marine Purchasing Association(IMPA) and International Shipsuppliers&Services Association(ISSA), a series of data for the safe working load and breaking load for lashing and securing equipment, which would be used in lashing and securing of extra-large vehicle, have been developed; Through the introduction of the lashing and securing between vessel, extra-large vehicles and the cargo it takes, the design of securing arrangements has been made in details. And a set of method for calculation of the design loads that extra-large vehicle is proposed and the methods for checking the securing arrangement of the extra-large vehicle given. This paper propose to use stow-wood to bear the weight of vehicle and cargo that converting extra-large vehicles stowage and securing problem to ordinary heavy cargo problem; And a method for calculation of the load produced by a extra-large vehicles’tire is proposed when consider both stress and bending moment. Making the use of jack、tie plate and lashing wire to operation this design plan founding on considering the relationship between tie plate and deck. And it was verified by a case of extra-large vehicle transportation.
