Serpentine auto-reconditioner for worn metals, carried into friction surface by lubricant, can improve the tribological properties of the frictional surface and extend the service life of mechanical equipments. Changing the contat form of the frictional pair, the type of carrier oil and the frictional pair materials, compounds consisted of serpentine powder and catalysts as lubricant additives were studied. The main conclusions are reached as follows:1. Experiments were carried out in three-pin/disk contact of Plint tester. Results showed that, compared with only serpentine as lubricant oil additive, compounds1consisted of serpentine powders and catalyst1effectively improved the stability of the coefficient of friction, and reduced the vibration of the testing machine.2. Experiments were carried out in the line contact model of ring and lump ball disk contact of UMT-3test. Results show that, compounds1increases the friction coefficient of45steel or cast iron frictional pair and serpentine powder as alubricant additives increases the wear than the base oil of CD50. Compound powders1reduces the friction coefficient than the serpentine powder; when the base oil is75W/90, compound powders1as lubricant oil additives reduces the wear than serpentine powder.3. Experiments were carried out in line contact of ring/block on M2000tester. When carrier oil is46hydraulic oil, the compounds2consisted of serpentine powder and catalyst2do not work for reducing friction. Catalyst2increases wear. The higher ratio of catalyst2of compound2, the greater the wear. When carrier oil is CD50oil, lubricating oil containing serpentine powder increases wear of the block sample, reduces wear of ring sample; lubricating oil containing catalyst2increases wear of block and ring than serpentine powder; when ratio of serpentine and catalyst2is1:1, friction coefficient reduces by2.59times than CD50.An effective recipe is found which can reduce friction and resist wear. This recipe will play important role for industrial application.
