Great attention has been paid to the optimal design, due to the fact that it can reduce the cost. Most of the traditional optimal algorithms, which are based on the numerical linear and nonlinear programming methods, require substantial gradient information and usually seek to improve the solution in the neighborhood of a starting point. The research work of this paper focuses on modern intelligent optimization algorithm. Swarm intelligence algorithm is a point random search algorithm based on population, which includes evolutionary algorithm, immune algorithm, particle swarm optimizer, ant colony algorithm, group search optimizer, artificial fish swarm algorithm, intelligent algorithm. The swarm intelligence optimization algorithm especially the particle optimizer, group search optimizer and artificial fish swarm algorithm have been widely used in structure optimization design.Firstly, this paper introduces the concept of engineering structural optimization problems and optimization algorithm development history. Then this paper introduce the basic idea, principle and realization process of particle swarm optimizer algorithm, artificial fish swarm algorithm and group search optimizer simply. At last, the artificial fish swarm algorithm principle, content, implementation process is introduced in detail. And the artificial fish swarm algorithm has been used in truss structure, which is compared with particle swarm optimizer and group search optimizer. Based on the principle of hybrid optimization, and combine the particle swarm optimizer and artificial fish swarm algorithm, a particle swarm-artificial fish swarm algorithm (PSAFSA) is proposed which is efficient and suitable for engineering structure optimization. At last the proposed algorithm is used in truss structure optimization and compare with artificial fish swarm algorithm, particle swarm optimizer and group search optimizer.The main contents of this paper are introduce the basic principle as well as calculation process of AFSA algorithm and PSAFSA algorithm; then based on the MATLAB platform, the main program for hybrid optimization algorithm is proposed, which is useu in several classical truss section optimization design example. Given the truss material parameters, load, displacement boundary condition and stress boundary conditions, use truss section area as a design variable, the lightest weight has been realized on the precondition of meeting the two constraint conditions.
