The belt conveyor is indispensable to modern transportation equipment. It is good at simple structure, convenient operation, easy repair and maintains, reliable operation, versatility, and so on. With the development of science and technology, the belt conveyor has been trend to longer distances, higher belt speed, larger volume. In this case, the belt conveyor drive system is becoming one of the focuses on the study, because it is the key equipment of belt conveyor and power source. Only by the drive system, the other modal energy can be transferred to the belt conveyor. In the long distance delivery, the traditional drive modes are still based on the nose concentrated drive. In order to reduce belt tension in the long-distance transmission, ther are many middle drive technology with auxiliary, the paper point out a new drive method, the linear motor direct drive belt conveyor.The linear motor drive is refered to using multiple linear motor drive belt conveyor directly without the help of the rotationg motor head or tail to supply the driving force. In this way, it can avoid the high dynamic tension in the starting process. It can reduce the belt tension caused in the increasing stand-alone. In addition, linear motor can transmit force without contaction. The linear motor move straightly and eliminating the intermediate gear. The primary is arranged along the belt, which can unlimited increase in theory. When the linear motor is applied on the belt conveyor, the primary is arranged along the belt, and secondary is embedded in the belt. The secondary can be bent along the belt and can be bent into groove when it carrying the meteriel. It has rigidity and toughness in a way. Compared synchronous motor to asynchronous motor, compared variety of secondary materials, compared variety of composite secondary materials ans structure, finally the grid-type complex secondary linear is chosed as a drive in the belt conveyor. By the theory analysis and solving the voltage equation to the grid-type composite secondary model, and then electromagenetic simulation with ghe Ansoft Maxwell2D, the reliability of the motor can be ensured.After confirmed the sub-type, it is need to design the sub-tape. Its manufacturing process and technology are the same to the common belt, which is in favour of the promotion. To balance the drive motor force and drive power, by theoretical calculated, it concludes the appropriate number of the motor along the belt conveyor and the the rational layout of the primary. By the RecurDyn simulation to the belt conveyor system, it can get the starting characteristics of the linear motor, and solve the start of the linear drive system on the conveyor speed, acceleration,and the belt tension.Through theoretical calculations and computer simulation, this paper analyses the linear motor comprehensively. It comes to the conclusion that linear motor used in the belt conveyor is feasible.
