Distribution network reconfiguration is a significant pattern to optimize the distribution system operation. During the normal operation period, the dispatchers according to the actual working condition of the switching manipulation to adjust the network structure. On the one hand, these operations can balance load, eliminate overload and advance power supply reliability; On the other hand, these operations are able to reduce network losses and also enhance the system economy. The distributed generation (DG) have a high penetration rates in the power system because of its superiority including with environment, economy, flexibility and reliability. A modified binary particle swarm optimization (BPSO) algorithm based on loop encoding is applied to solve distribution network reconfiguration comprising DG in this thesis.Firstly, the current research situation of distributed generation, distribution network reconfiguration algorithm and distribution network reconfiguration containing DG is described in this paper. And then the form and the mathematical models of DG is briefly overviewed in this dissertation. And also the advantage of DG is analyzed. Then the basic concepts, principles and program flow of particle swarm optimization (PSO) is generalized. Combining with the feature of distribution network reconfiguration, the BPSO is modified. Then using the loop encoding means initializes the particle populations. The criterion of radial operation of distribution networks comprising DG is also formulated. Using forward/backward sweep method based on the branch current calculates the distribution network load flow. This process can avoid the complexity of the network number and this method is suitable for distribution network load flow calculation in the network topology which has great changes. The modified BPSO is solved the distribution network reconfiguration problem considering DG. Finally, the modified BPSO is applied IEEE33nodes distribution network reconfiguration including and excluding DG to simulate and optimize. And the simulation results is also analysed. This thesis adopting the reconfiguration model of the optimization function of the minimum of system active power loss is used distribution network reconfiguration containing DG. It can not only lessen a certain extent of distribution network losses, but also promote the quality of the nodes voltages. And the global stability and the convergence rate of the algorithm has been improved.
