Because of its high peed, energy conservation, excellent transportation capability, environmental protection, urban rail traffic received attention of big cities. To solve the traffic problem in the development of the city, the most effective way is to establish a integrated traffic system based on rail transit.Bogie is one of the most important parts of the urban rail vehicles. Not only the running gear, the bogie also loads and transfers various load. It determines the stability, riding quality, security.Single-axle bogie is a kind of unconventional bogie. It has obvious advantages in reducing vehicle weight, moderating wheel-rail forces, reducing the vehicle operation noise and improving the curve negotiation capacity. Because of the enormous technological advantages, single-axle bogie receives extensive attention. Some foreign cities’rail traffic system have used single-axle bogie vehicle. Domestic study about single-axle bogie is less. There is no practical application. So it has important theoretical and engineering significance to systematically study the structure selection and dynamic performance of single-axle bogie.This paper has the following several parts content:1. The paper expounds on domestic and foreign development situation of urban rail transit and basic characteristics of the single-axle bogie. Then the foreign application situation is introuduced.2. The design scheme of single-axle bogie is introduced. Each part and main parts of the bogie are selected.3. Dynamics model of single-axle bogie vehicle is established. Then the equations of motion are derived when the wheelset goes though the curve with radius of any changes. Again then dynamic differential equations of the single-axle bogie vehicle are derived. Finally, the basic dynamic principles of stability, riding quality, curve negotiation of the vehicle motion are discussed.4. The parameters of single-axle bogie vehicle are optimized. The first suspension and the second suspension are specifically studied to find how they impact on the stability, riding quality, and negotiation of the vehicle. Then the optimal of parameters combination is selected.5. According to the optimal suspension parameters, the vehicle dynamic performance is analyzed. The performance index such as stability, riding quality, and curve negotiation in the conditions of empty and full are discussed. The stability of the single-axle bogie is also studied. At last the curve negotiation performance of single-axle bogie is compared with the conventional two axle bogie to verify the excellent small radius curve negotiation performance.
